Taking fresh air around Kota Kinabalu

You may wonder if there are any nice places around Kota Kinabalu? Of course! Most  of the travelers visiting Sabah for the first time would most likely visit Kota Kinabalu or KK in short. befre you decide to take your tour package try to sight seeing kkcity first there are a number of places that you can do here as most of those places require a half day tour.

Lets start the ball rolling based on your free and easy stay in KK for first timers or even for those that may have been here before, this information could be a little extra helpful in your travels around Kota Kinabalu city.

1. Gaya Street

" Gaya street? Where is that is it nice? "

Let me tell you something about  Gaya Street, before the name given Gaya Street it  known as Bond Street during the British colonial era, and was established in 1902 and it one of the most old town in KK ! Cool right?! There are numerous shops which date back many years giving visitors that nostalgic feeling. All sorts of business can be found here from traditional barbers, grocery shops, goldsmiths, traditional coffee shops and the modern restaurants and cafes apart from the general convenience stores and banks here. There are many hotels & hostels found around here, For the tourist, the Sabah Tourism Board's office is housed in one of the old colonial buildings near Gaya Street.

You dont wanna miss this, "Sunday Market " always open  every Sunday which starts as early as 6 in the morning till about noon. People will prepare their things to sale around 4am-5am isn't that crazy?! Oh and yes, the parking will be closed because the marketeer will open their canopy at the parking lot. Loads of traders fill up the main street selling all sorts of wares, clothes, flowers, food, souvenirs and even pets. I would highly recommend visiting Gaya Street on a Sunday Morning. After exploring, give one of the old coffee shops a try, especially the coffee and dim sum or noodles.

Best Restaurant list so far ;
1. Kinabalu Cafe
2. Seng Fatt Restaurant
3. Fong Ip
4. Yee Fung Restaurant
                 5. Sin Kee Bak Kut Teh ( Non-Halal)

Atkinsons Tower

Atkinson's Clock Tower is Sabah's oldest standing structure and located at the back of Gaya Street in town. This beautiful clock tower was built back in 1905 and amazingly without any nails - only wood. Now, it stands at a proud 15 meters (50 Feet) high on the foot of the hill here.
This attraction is great for historical buffs and also photographic moments. You simply need to cross Jalan KK Bypass road to get to the Atkinsons Tower and there is no charge at all here. This is also part of the Heritage Walk in Kota Kinabalu trail.

FYI, It's near to our hostel, 1 minit to walk or less.

Signal Hill
Relaxing place at Kota Kinabalu city & this is the place to see it. A short 10-15 minute trek or walk up to Signal Hill from KK city will land you at the Signal hill Observatory Platform where you can see the entire view of KK city plus the islands of the T.A.R Marine Park in the distance.  This location is also a great place to visit in the day or in the evening.

The entrance to walk up here is from Padang Merdeka field
at the back of Gaya Street and
bring a bottle of water because you have to take the stairs.

FYI, It's near to our hostel as well.

So here's a lil bit about KKCity so far, to be continue.
